    Description

Soviet WW2 Award Certificate for the Capture of Vienna Medal, issued on 18 January 1947 to Guards Private Nikolai Vel’din.
This is GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL official Soviet document, not a copy!
The booklet measures 3" x 4 ¼ " when closed. The inside pages show the depiction of the Medal, certificate serial number (A 188045), and hand-written name and rank of the award recipient. Also shows hand signature of the military commissar of the district where Vel’din lived after the war and the ink stamp of the District Military Commissariat. The document is in VERY GOOD condition. Shows the usual light soiling and water stains along the edges on the inside pages . Has normal wear and small separations along the spine but
still sound and solid. finger prints to the cover but the interior is very clean. Has not been folded.
The original documents for the Vienna Medal are relatively hard to find. The Wehrmacht had been fatally weakened by the time the Red Army appeared at the gates of Vienna in 1945. The poorly defended city fell relatively quickly and the operation did not require nearly as large number of Soviet troops as some of the other sieges. Consequently, far fewer of the Vienna medals were awarded compared to the other city defense of capture medals such as Stalingrad, Warsaw or Berlin.
